Our Philosophy

We train dogs in Watertown in a way that actually works

The Charles River path is right there, and it should be the best part of your dog's day — but between the cyclists, the other dogs, and the crowds near Arsenal Yards, the walk turns into a fight. Your dog is fine at home. It's the tight East Watertown sidewalk, the pass near the Square, the dog across the street that sets him off. That is not a broken dog. That is a normal dog in a compact, busy town on the river.

Good Dog Boston trains dogs in Watertown the way Watertown actually works: in your home and on your real streets, using reward-based methods and no aversives. We do not run a facility you drive to. We come to you, because the spot where your dog reacts is the spot where the training has to happen.

Training that fits a compact riverside town

Watertown squeezes dense neighborhoods, a busy square, and a heavily used river path into a small footprint, which raises the stakes on leash. Reactivity here is usually fear, not aggression, and the fix is not a firmer correction. It is distance, timing, and giving your dog something clear to do when a trigger appears. We build that with you, on foot, in the spots you use every day.

Where we practice in Watertown

  • The Charles River Reservation path — long, linear, and open, so you can work at a distance from bikes and dogs and close the gap only when your dog is ready.

  • Filippello Park — open green with room to keep your dog under threshold instead of nose-to-nose.

  • Arsenal Park — quieter sightlines for early recall and settling work before the busier corridors.

  • Saltonstall Park — a calm, central spot near the Square for practicing focus with the neighborhood in view.

Your own block counts too. If the hard part of your day is the stretch between your door and the river path, that is where we train.
